The HTC Touch Diamond is an advanced mobile phone with a wide range of features. It was first released back in the summer of 2008 and aimed at consumers dazzled by the new touch screen technology on offer and eager to upgrade from standard mobile phones.
In this article, rather than provide you with an HTC Touch Diamond review we will present an overview of how the handset was received. The top reviews will be highlighted and we’ll throw in a few choice links to places where you can find further information and opinions.
The HTC Touch Diamond review on CNET was decidedly mixed and they were clearly fairly unimpressed awarding the phone a rating of just 5.9 out of 10. While it features a stylish slim design and support for GPS, Wi-Fi and HSDPA they felt the interface performed poorly and the touch screen was unresponsive.
There is a great HTC Touch Diamond review at Phone Arena which goes into detail on the various features and also includes some excellent photos of the handset from various angles so you can get a real feel for how it looks. Their focus is on practical considerations like the availability and placement of the functionality and they seem to conclude that the handset features a quality and thoughtful design.
Trusted Reviews is another great website where you can find a detailed HTC Touch Diamond review. Once again the handset is put through the paces and while it excels in terms of features it disappoints when it comes to performance. This is a four page review with many user comments and a variety of photos of the handset so if you are considering picking up an HTC Touch Diamond then you’ll definitely want to read this first.
You can also find the phone on Amazon (UK) and although the reviews are limited to just five examples it has received an average score of 4 out of 5. The first consumer has also provided an excellent HTC Touch Diamond review which discusses their experiences with the phone in great detail. Consumer reviews can often make for interesting reading although you will tend to encounter much stronger points of view than you would on a device review website.
The reviews on Amazon.com are a great deal more critical and the phone has received an average of just 3 out of 5 here. Some of the HTC Touch Diamond reviews from consumers in the US have been downright damning and complaints seem to centre on the fact that the touch screen navigation is slow and the interface is hard to navigate.
The basic specs of the phone are definitely good. It features a 2.8 inch touch screen with a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. It has a 3.2 megapixel camera, a video recording capability and it supports a wide range of audio formats. It can also receive FM radio and makes surfing the internet easy with browser and email support. It also has Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth functionality, 4GB of onboard memory and the Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system.
Despite the great range of features there isn’t an HTC Touch Diamond review which doesn’t mention the slow speed of the touch screen and the problems navigating the Windows Mobile platform. If you are considering purchasing one of these handsets you may be interested to know that the Diamond 2 is on the way. The interface was clearly a problem with the original and so it should come as no surprise that HTC has reworked it for the second generation of Touch Diamond phones. However it will still feature the Windows Mobile 6.1 OS and you’ll need to change models altogether if you want something equipped with Google Android instead.
