You can now pre-order the new Nokia N900. If you haven’t yet caught sight of the phone, which is also being billed as a mobile computer, then feast your eyes on these pictures. To give you an idea of what’s going on inside this is a brief overview.
The Nokia N900 packs a 600 MHz processor with up to 1 GB of application memory and a Linux-based operating system. It has 32 GB of internal memory storage as standard and you can expand that up to 48 GB with an external microSD card. It supports fast Wi-Fi and offers 3.5G and WLAN connectivity. There is a 5 megapixel digital camera built in and it can capture video footage at an 800 x 480 pixel resolution. There is a 3.5 inch touch screen with 800 x 480 pixel resolution and a slide open full QWERTY keyboard. It also has a built in GPS receiver and comes with Ovi Maps pre-installed.
It looks like a real competitor for the iPhone to me and having been happy with a Nokia N95 I’ll definitely be getting my hands on one of these. You can pre-order in the US for $599.99 at mobilecityonline.com. You can pre-order for £499 direct from the Nokia store in the UK. Of course contract deals will bring the price down considerably so if you are due an upgrade it might be worth hanging on for this.
If you want a closer look at the phone then check out this demo video which shows off a few of the features.
