Wii Fitness is a game that comes with the Wii console. You get a balance board with the game, and you can use the balance board to do different exercises. The exercise categories are yoga, muscle, aerobic and balance.

The Good

  • The balance board that comes with the game is close to amazing. It can tell your movements, and it can also weigh you. You will do most of your exercises on the board, and it is a helpful tool.

  • There are some challenging exercises that come with the game. Also, taking a jog through the virtual park with a friend is a great way to get in shape without worrying about the outdoor elements.

  • They trainers can motivate you. They know how you are progressing, which is helpful when you need that extra push.

The Bad

  • Those who weigh over 330 pounds cannot play. The board will not take weight over that amount, so they will have to come up with a different exercise program.

  • You don’t have control over your workout. The game comes up with a workout for you, and you cannot easily jump from one workout to the next. Therefore, you will have to go back to the menu if you want to change from balance to cardio.

  • With the exception of the jogging, you have to work out on your own. The exercises are meant for one person.

  • While some of the exercises are challenging, others are too easy.

  • If you are overly sensitive, you might have a hard time with this game. The game has come under heat recently for using the word “fat” to describe a girl. The way the system figures BMI is not the most scientific, and thus, you should not allow the game to convince you that you are obese. If you are overweight, you know it, and you don’t really need a game to tell you.

  • The yoga moves in the game will only take you so far. If you love some yoga, you might need to come up with some of your own moves to incorporate in.

The Bottom Line

Wii Fitness is a good game for those who need a jumpstart for their fitness. While it is not a full fitness solution, it is a way to get started. People can become more aware of their fitness level by playing the game, and it is also a fun way to start working toward getting in shape.

It is not the only thing you need, though. If overall fitness is a goal, you can use this game along with other routines. While it may not be the only solution you need, it is a great start for a video game. It might change the way people think of video games.
