Gears of War is a violent third-person shooter game which casts the player in the role of a battle hardened soldier fighting to save the planet of Sera from a fierce subterranean enemy known as the Locust Horde. With fantastic visuals, strategic game-play and a host of multiplayer options it quickly became the fastest selling game of 2006. Initially released as an Xbox 360 exclusive it was later ported to the PC and Mac.
It is a challenging game and offers you the option of playing co-operatively with a friend. However you may still find the game tough to beat and so if you need a Gears of War walkthrough then read on.
The game is split into five acts and there are multiple chapters in each act offering several hours of game-play. The game places a strong emphasis on combat and so there are waves of enemies to despatch. The level design and functionality encourage you to take cover frequently which you can do by pressing A on the Xbox 360. You also need to reload often and the mechanic here is quite unique, you need to press RB to initiate the reload then press it again at the right time to pull off the manoeuvre with speed.
Your enemies in the game mostly live underground and so you always need to be on the look out for emergence holes. By sealing them up quickly you can often prevent additional enemies from rising and attacking you. As with all shooters you have a range of weaponry to choose from but your ammunition is limited and you need to pick up additional ammunition wherever you can find it.
It is not difficult to find a good Gears of War walkthrough. Because it was such a big title many websites created feature guides on the game which give you hints and tips about strategies to use, advice for multiplayer modes, the location of all secrets and of course a step by step set of instructions to guide you through each and every level of the single player game.
On the IGN website you will find a feature guide which explains the basics of the game and then gives a blow by blow account which walks you through the action. The walkthrough is accompanied by multiple screenshots and split into acts and chapters so it is easy to follow. It also highlights the location of the secret Cog Tags and there are thirty to collect in all. You can also download the complete guide as a PDF file and print it out if you prefer.
You’ll also find a Gears of War walkthrough on GameFAQs, in fact you’ll find several. These are all user created walkthroughs and they each differ slightly although they are all basic notepad files and completely text based. There are in depth guides to the enemies and weaponry in the game as well as suggested strategies and step by step instructions. The quality of these walkthroughs is variable and they are all written in slightly different styles, some are easier to follow than others. The lack of a visual aid is definitely something you’ll miss.
If you are looking for a straightforward Gears of War walkthrough which is clearly laid out and accompanied by actual game footage to steer you through the carnage then Mahalo is the place for you. The walkthrough is very easy to follow with simple numbered steps and there are also embedded videos from YouTube which show actual footage of each level being completed so it is easier to work out where you are and what you need to do.
