Have you heard the phrase ‘good things come in small packages’? Well the M Digigr8 digital video camera also known as the DV182 digital camera is attempting to live up to this standard. Whether or not it achieves this, I’ll let you be the final judge.

This digital camera is described as the world’s smallest video camera weighing in at 110g (excluding the battery) and with dimensions of 86 mm (L) x 40 mm (W) x 68 mm (H), I can see why.

Now I know with advancements in nanotechnology that minute devices can demonstrate extraordinary capabilities and the size of a device is not a direct indication of the level of performance.

There are many small devices in the digital camera class that are packed with features and benefits, and the M Digigr8 digital video camera tries to pack a punch for its size.

Let’s look at what this video camera can do.

Features

Ok, so the M Digigr8 digital video camera does what it says on the box, in that it allows you to perform the following actions:

  • Digital Video Recording (sound)
  • Take Still Photos
  • Use as a PC Camera/Webcam

But how well it performs these functions would be the true test of whether it is worth parting with your $50 (average online retail price) or not. The lowest price I have seen to date is $30 while the highest is $70.

I’ll give you the facts and you can decide if this device would suit your needs. It would be presumptuous of me to think all needs would be the same. So here goes.

The camcorder can record for approximately 35-45 minutes and if you want to record for longer you would need to purchase a separate memory card.

The LCD display is large enough so you won’t have to squint to see what is going on and when used as a webcam it is compatible with Skype, MSN and other video calling and chat software.

The super resolution on this camera produces very clear and crisp high quality photos, (See Sample Photo Here) and the video quality is adequate as well (See Sample Video Here).

Once you get past the toylike look and feel you should be able to get some decent results. As reflected in the price, it is not a high end product and as the other saying goes ‘you get what you pay for’.

What Customers Say

I like to look at what others are saying about a product to get a general idea of whether it is good or not. When I did the research on the M Digigr8 digital video camera I found more bad experiences than good.

Keep in mind that you are more likely to hear about bad news faster than good. You can visit PCreview to check out some user opinions.

For most users this camcorder is below average due to the limitation in recording time. It is ok when used as a camera but for photo enthusiasts it is lacking in features. The Webcam is probably the most adequate feature.

Users have also complained about the lack of clarity of instructions for operating the device, but if you are techno savvy this should not be difficult for you to overcome.

The features of the M Digigr8 digital video camera are nothing to shout about, it is really a case of either you like it or you don’t. For the price you can certainly try it out and if it is not to your liking, you can always pass in on to your kids, nieces or nephews.
